11th Annual Rakers Car Show: June 28, 2014
Enjoy the thrill of classic cars in Port Townsend on June 28, 2014 at the 11th Annual Rakers Car show!
The Rakers Car Club was started in 1957 by Port Townsend High School students Vic Olson, Gary Ried, Glen Benton and Jim Seastone. Raker members usually hung out at Joe’s Corral or CUSAKS, both of which were eatery stops along the normal cruising circuit. Club meetings were usually held at the designated local quarter-mile strip out by West Hastings or, on occasion, in a building on Washington Street, the site of the Bishop Victorian Hotel.
The Rakers Car Club disbanded in the late 1960s, when many members had either gone into the military, moved away, married, or started a family. By April 2001, the original members had finished raising their families, retired, or rekindled their passion for cars — and the Rakers Car Club was reborn. Membership is currently approaching 100 with members located in Washington and Idaho.
Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles from all years welcome. Dash Plaques for first 175 entrants and Trophies Awards in many categories.
Vehicle Registration begins at 7:30 am until 9:30 am
Pre-Register by June 1: $15 / After June 1 or Day of Show: $20
Registration: 7:30 am / General Public: 9:30 am, Awards: 3:00 pm
Memorial Field Rules Apply: No Pets, No Alcohol, No Tobacco

Spectator Admission: $5, age 13+, 12 & under Free & Active Duty Military with ID and family FREE

Steam and Sail – See a Whale. Start your Summer in PT
Steam into summer with Port Townsend’s first-ever Artisan Food Festival, May 24-25, celebrating the Olympic Peninsula’s artisan foods and makers. The weekend includes classes, chef demos, tastings, tours, author talks, dinners and even an artisan cocktail tasting!
Start at the Farmers Market on Saturday from 9am to 3pm in Uptown Port Townsend featuring over 70 vendors. Chef demos will be from 10am to 2pm and artisan food classes will be going on all day from 10am to 5pm. Learn more at http://jeffersoncountyfarmersmarket.org/celebrate/artisanfoodfestival/.
Steampunk takes over June 6-8 as the Brass Screw Confederacy will “Octopi Port Townsend.” The city will be invaded by wave upon wave of street performers, vendors, musicians, costumed adventurers, and the most eccentric of humanity this side of the time-space continuum. Masters of craft and trade enlighten the masses with the latest scientific discoveries. Take in entertainment to amuse all and delight the most jaded “carnivale officiando.”
This year’s steampunkery expands to Fort Worden, an 1897 military post replete with weathered bunkers, military parade grounds and barracks. Saturday night’s Hootenanny will be there. So answer the call to join the Confederacy and go tohttp://brass-screw.org/ for a peek at what’s ahead to whet your whistle. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to do a little beach frolicking over the weekend!

June is Orca Month, so we’re hoping you’ll see a whale when you’re in Port Townsend. Learn about orcas and the story of Hope at the Port Townsend Marine Science Center on Fort Worden beach http://ptmsc.org or take a whale watching cruise departing from Point Hudson Marina.
Reminisce about the early days of sail with the Classic Mariners’ Regatta on June 7 and 8. Wooden sailboats are the star of this show as they ply the waters of Port Townsend Bay with the first of two races beginning at noon on Saturday. Sunday morning at 9am, watch the rowing race for wood dinghies, shells and kayaks. And at noon, the third and final race of the sailboats begins. At 5pm, winners are celebrated at an awards ceremony in the Northwest Maritime Center. Enjoy the races on both days from any perch along the city’s waterfront and cheer on your favorite boat!
The Taste of Port Townsend returns for its 24th year on June 12 from 4-7:30pm with a tantalizing taste of PT’s finest restaurants and eateries. Tickets are available athttp://www.ptmainstreet.org/page27/page27.html and give you admission to all nine venues.The Taste is a fundraiser for the non-profit Main Street Program.
