Enjoy “A Day in the Country”, get remodeling or building ideas, and support local education projects.

The Port Townsend branch of AAUW is proud to announce its 15th Annual Kitchen Tour, “A Day in the Country,” to be held on Saturday, April 28, 10 am to 4 pm. Visit 8 extraordinary kitchens in the Chimacum Valley and Tri-Area near Port Townsend, from modern to traditional Arts and Crafts, with farm-house charm to those showcasing a contemporary simplicity.

Evident in many of these kitchens is an extensive collaboration with area architects, contractors, designers, and other craftsmen. Great rooms, designed adjacent to many kitchens, reflect the importance of friend and family gatherings to local residents. Design elements, in both contemporary and country-classic kitchens, include ceramic and hardwood flooring, cabinetry with modern functionality, and a variety of cutting-edge appliances. Stainless steel is featured, as well as stone and granite in many subtly colored palettes.

Through the University Women’s Foundation, the AAUW Port Townsend’s 501(c)(3) philanthropic arm, proceeds from this popular annual event fund educational projects in East Jefferson County, directly benefiting public schools in the Brinnon, Chimacum, Port Townsend, and Quilcene school districts. Proceeds sponsor scholarships and STEM recognition for high school students, Career Days for 8th graders, phonics and reading programs for kindergartners, and a math program for 3rd graders.

Passports, which include detailed descriptions of the kitchens, raffle baskets, and free refreshments–as well as kitchen design seminars–will be available at the hospitality center at Chimacum Creek Primary School (313 Ness’ Corner Road, Port Hadlock). Tickets are $14 ($18 on day of tour at the hospitality center) and are sold beginning March 17 at Chimacum Corner Farmstand, Dana Pointe Interiors, Dream City Market and Café, Kitchen & Bath Studio, Personalize It, What’s Cookin’, and Over the Fence.

This is a great time to spend a weekend in Port Townsend and East Jefferson County—enjoy the tour, this Victorian seaport, and the nearby sea and mountains. For more information, call (360) 379-6454 or visit the event’s Facebook Page.
