Jazz guy

During the Jazz Festival week the clubs invite the musicains to play in smaller more intimate settings, with great bands playing all over town. Arriving after a leasurly walk in Uptown to one such location "Sweet Laurettes", I heard the most amazing music coming out of a packed house at this charming restaurant turned nightclub for the week of Jazz Fest.    Here was a really nice groove these horn players were in the middle of. Right under the trees there, with a warm breeze, and others showing up late too, all of us crowded around the windows to feel it thru the glass . Watching this great band composed of world class musicians.  I felt like these guys were good enough to play any room in the world, but they choose to come and enjoy the vibe at this Cool Port Townsend Jazz Festival on this little street, to a group of visitors and locals who were really happy to have them there. Port Townsend is full of these Wow moments..... And it was Fine, So Fine.                                         Local Guy

Centrum for the Arts
www.centrum.org

2008 will be a summer of amazing and enriching musical performances at Centrum and Fort Worden State Park, including blues, jazz, slide and steel, and fiddle tunes festivals, chamber music performances, and a rock and roll show featuring the Queen of Rock, Wanda Jackson. Centrum and Fort Worden State Park thrive in mutual commitment to life-long learning experiences, and Centrum performances are the culmination of week-long residential workshops in which aspiring, amateur and pre-professional artists from around North America live, work and play with world-class artist faculty. Curated by such artistic directors as Dirk Powell, Helen Callus, John Clayton, Phil Wiggins, and Orville Johnson, these workshops are the heart of the Centrum experience. Centrum’s mainstage shows take place at McCurdy Pavilion, a, 1,200-seat World War I-era balloon hangar that has been renovated into a concert hall. Smaller, more intimate performances and readings take place at the 280-seat Joseph F. Wheeler Theater. In addition, every Friday at noon between June 27 and August 6, Centrum will present free performances on the lawn in front of the Fort Worden Commons. Tickets to Centrum performances are available online at www.centrum.org or by calling Centrum at 800-733-3608 or 360-385-3102, x117. Tickets may be purchased in person in Port Townsend at the Centrum office at Fort Worden State Park; at Quimper Sound, 230 Taylor Street; and at The Food Co-op, 414 Kearney Street. Tickets may also be purchased at individual events, but availability is not guaranteed.
